All puppets are made in marionette design. They are therefore tied on nine strings and are operated by means of a so-called rocker. I use alder or lime wood. While alder wood darkens over time and is thus suitable for devil puppets, for example, lime wood retains its light colour with faint summer growth.
The height of the puppets ranges from 60 to 70 cm. The entire body is hand-carved from wood and even the puppets with cloth clothes have wooden arms and legs that are movable. The whole figure consists of about 25 parts, which are worked by sanding and polishing. The puppets are impregnated with hard oil to bring out the beauty of the lime wood. The arms and legs are connected to the body by round leather straps and all the parts can be separated from each other to easily disassemble the puppet.
The puppets can be divided into two large groups, cloth-dressed puppets and all-wood puppets. The design of the cloth dresses takes into account the tying of the puppet to the hoist so that the puppet can be changed. The all-wood puppets have clothes carved and painted with acrylic paints. I use mostly glaze paints for painting and only paint where necessary so as not to cover the natural colour of the wood.
